General stands
General Juan Rafael Bustillo, a retired air force officer who was accused in a UN-sponsored report of ordering the murder of six Jesuits in 1989, is to stand for president of El Salvador for the right- wing National Conciliation Party in next March's elections, Reuter reports from San Salvador. The report had recommended that those guilty of human-rights violations should be barred from public office for 10 years.
