Haiti grip tightened
President Bill Clinton yesterday raised the pressure on Haiti's military rulers to surrender power by expanding a freeze of US bank accounts and property of Haiti's elite, Reuter reports from Washington. A senior US official said the new sanctions, which apply to all Haitian nationals residing in Haiti and all family members of already blocked individuals, wherever they live, were 'as close to a smart bomb financially as we can get'.
