A truck carrying 42,000 pounds of honey overturned on an American highway yesterday afternoon, delaying thousands of commuters.

The lorry was travelling along LA's northstate 605 highway before it over-turned - closing four lanes of traffic and spilling around 21 tonnes of honey.

TV footage showed honey flowing from the truck onto the motorway but fortunately, clean-up crews stopped the spillage from leaking into drains and creating a stickier situation.

It's not known what caused the truck to flip, however no other vehicles were involved and have been no reported injuries.

Nearly 50 gallons of fuel were also split in the accident.
