Harare (AFP) - Malawi's Life President, Hastings Kamuzu Banda, announced yesterday that a referendum would be held to determine whether Malawians wanted to stick to the country's one- party system or change to multi- party democracy, the official Malawi News Agency reported.
The ageing leader, who has ruled the country for the past 28 years, said the referendum by secret ballot would be held as soon as possible but set no date.
