Bahrain: Campaigner wins appeal but is still in jail

A Bahraini judge has overturned a conviction against the prominent human rights campaigner Nabeel Rajab for posting alleged anti-government comments on Twitter, but he remains in jail appealing another prison sentence.

Mr Rajab's wife Sumaiya vowed to press on with an international campaign for her husband's release before the 10 September hearing on his three-year sentence for taking part in "illegal gatherings". The court's ruling in that case last week caused fresh clashes in the kingdom.
