Clashes at protest hub in Bahraini capital
Riot police used tear gas and stun grenades yesterday to disperse thousands of marchers trying to reach a heavily guarded square in Manama that was once the hub of their anti-government uprising.
The violence came at the end of Ashoura, a Shia religious festival. It was the heaviest clash in months near Pearl Square, where Shia-led protesters against the Sunni government gathered in February 2011.
