HONG KONG (Reuter) - Public support for Hong Kong Governor Chris Patten's plans to extend democracy in the colony is growing despite the war of words with China, a newspaper opinion poll showed.
Mr Patten's government vehemently denied a report that it planned to hold secret talks with Peking in which the democracy proposals would be watered down.
