A Roman Catholic order has admitted that some boys were sexually and physically assaulted while in its care and has apologised in Australian newspapers, Reuter reports from Sydney.
The Christian Brothers ran weekend advertisements in newspapers, including the national daily The Australian, expressing 'heartfelt regret for the failings of the past'. There have recently been allegations of abuse of child migrants who were sent to their institutions in Western Australia, many from Britain and Ireland.
