Nairobi (AP) - Heavy fighting was reported yesterday in the Sudanese provincial capital of Malakal, four days after rebels claimed to have seized most of the city.
A faction of the Sudan People's Liberation Army said 409 government soldiers had been killed, and spoke of continuing fighting around the airport. But in Khartoum, a government newspaper quoted the governor in Malakal as saying the city and its suburbs were quiet.
