CANTS, the rose grower of Nayland Road, Mile End, Colchester CO4 5EB, has again published lists of the season's best-selling roses. 'Graham Thomas', the English rose bred by David Austin, has deservedly won top place in the shrub roses. It is one of the best of this new race, full-petalled so it looks like an old-fashioned rose, but continuous flowering, which few of the old ones are. It is a rich, eggy yellow with an excellent scent.

'Gertrude Jekyll', another English rose, is second among the shrub roses, the foliage greyer than 'Graham Thomas', the colour a deep pink.
