Terence Crawford vs Amir Khan preview

Amir Khan's dream of finally proving himself one of the finest fighters in the world ended in a controversial defeat when he was stopped in the sixth round after a low blow by the great Terence Crawford at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Fighting to also become a two-weight world champion by adding the WBO welterweight title to his impressive list of honours, Khan had long pursued this opportunity which has likely ended his career at the highest level, leaving him with few remaining lucrative options.

A domestic fight with long-term rival Kell Brook will appeal until either retires, but for the 32-year-old Khan - groomed for greatness since winning an Olympic silver medal in 2004 aged 17 - his successful time as an attraction in the US may have passed.

Round 1: Khan is down in the opening round!

Round 1: Crawford 10-8 Khan

A cautious opening two minutes sees Crawford take his time to size up Khan, and then he swings a perfectly timed right-hand counter over the Brit's jab that catches him clean on the chin and sends him to the floor. Khan left it wide open.

He gets back to his feet quickly, but Crawford catches him flush again as the pair exchange, forcing Khan to hold on, and he's only saved by the bell. What a start!

Round 2: Crawford 19-18 Khan

Crawford is stalking Khan, not looking to leap on him yet and just waiting patiently for the Brit to make another mistake.

Khan is doing his best to be more active and is still throwing and lands a solid right hand. But every time Crawford gets on his front foot he closes down the distance and looks like he can hurt Khan against the ropes.

Khan just about nicks the round on activity. A good recovery after a terrible opener.

Round 3: Crawford 29-27 Khan

Crawford switches to southpaw in the third and Khan becomes more cautious due to his jab being hindered. The Brit is landing with scoring punches but there's nothing that can deter Crawford from coming forwards. He's just waiting for Khan to lunge and immediately throwing heavy counters and, just before the end of the round, he catches him flush on the chin but Khan holds it well.

Round 4: Crawford 39-36 Khan

A huge round for Crawford who starts unloading on Khan midway through the round. He lands winging hooks to the body that chip away at the ribs before going upstairs to the head and Khan looks wobbled for a moment. He recovers well but that took a toll and he winces as he walks back to the corner.

Round 5: Crawford 49-45 Khan

Another onslaught from Crawford who is dictating the pace and opening up the angle to attack Khan's body with feints time-after-time.

Khan comes straight back every time but he's playing a dangerous game, dropping his hands as he comes in and Crawford is there, waiting to pounce on the counter every time. Virgil Hunter is screaming at him to keep his hands up from the corner.

The fight has been waved off after a low blow!

Crawford hit Khan with a huge low blow and the Brit says he cannot continue.
