Brian Lara hospitalised in Mumbai with West Indies legend suffering from chest pains

The cricket legend has been working in India to cover the World Cup with Star Sports

West Indies legend Brian Lara has been hospitalised in Mumbai after suffering from chest pains.

The 50-year-old complained of feeling discomfort and was rushed to the Global Hospital in Parel, Mumbai.

Lara is in India while working with broadcaster Star Sports on the ICC World Cup.

No further details on his condition have been released.

Lara was the first player to pass the 400 mark for a Test innings and made 131 Tests appearances for the West Indies, averaging 52.89 from his 11,953 runs.

As well as still holding the highest individual Test score from that famous knock in 2004 against England, Lara holds the record for the highest individual score in first-class cricket.

He posted 501 Not Out for Warwickshire against Durham in 1994.

Lara visited England last week, making an appearance on Good Morning Britain alongside Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

West Indies Cricket released a statement announcing their best wishes to Lara.

It read: “Our prayers and well wishes go out to former West Indies batsman and captain Brian Lara who has been hospitalised in Mumbai due to chest pains. On behalf of all of us at Cricket West Indies, we wish you a speedy recovery.”
