South Africa's skipper AB de Villiers has effectively ruled fast bowler Dale Steyn out of tomorrow's Champions Trophy clash with Pakistan.

It is a blow for the Proteas who have already lost paceman Morne Morkel through injury and missed Steyn in their defeat to India last Thursday.

The fast bowler is suffering from a side strain and while De Villiers did not completely rule him out of the match at Edgbaston tomorrow, the prognosis does not look good.

"The final decision hasn't been made yet, but it's not looking good," he said.

"Chances are that he'll only be ready for the last game. We're still hanging on to that last little bit of hope that he could wake up tomorrow morning and do a bit of a fitness test and look good for the game, but it's not looking good at all."
