Phil Salt opened alongside Jason Roy for England in their first one-day international against the Netherlands, with the visitors opting for an all left-arm fast bowling attack. Jonny Bairstow’s Test duties have precluded his involvement for this three-match series in Amstelveen, a suburb to the south west of Amsterdam, so Salt comes in with Dawid Malan at first drop.
Salt was pressed into action immediately as Dutch captain Pieter Seelaar won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sam Curran, David Willey and Reece Topley make up the seam attack, with Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone expected to supplement the spin of frontliner Adil Rashid. The hosts, meanwhile, left out Tom Cooper but Philippe Boissevain and Shane Snater were included in the XI.
