Stephen Peters made the highest score of his first-class career and David Leatherdale finished unbeaten on 147 as Worcestershire continued their superb start to the season by piling up 398 for 5 at Northampton yesterday.

Peters showed a maturity beyond his years in his innings of 146 that bettered his previous top-score by 36 and included 25 fours and a six. Leatherdale punished the home bowlers for anything on a poor length.

John Blain was the pick of the home attack, and his figures of 3 for 99 underlined that batsmen were certainly on top.
