South Africa completed a comfortable victory over India by an innings and 25 runs, bowling their visitors out for 459 on the final morning. It was the highest ever score by a team that lost by an innings.

Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn took the final two wickets to fall, and both finished with seven wickets in the match. Sachin Tendulkar remained unbeaten on 111 at the end, his 50th Test century. The second Test starts in Durban on Boxing Day.
