New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder gave himself some valuable practice ahead of Thursday's first Test with Australia by hitting a blistering 175 against Australia A yesterday, but walked off Allan Border Field in Brisbane slightly disappointed.

The left-hander was annoyed to have missed out on a double century but then suffered again when he found out he had also tied the world record for most sixes in an innings held by Andrew Symonds and Graham Napier. Ryder blasted 16 sixes, and 11 boundaries, in his 137-ball knock as New Zealand scored 467 for 6 before the match was declared a draw.

"The boys were saying it's pretty close to a world record so it's pretty disappointing to not break it," said Ryder.
