Sibley’s record innings of 242 ended by Sidebottom

Eighteen-year-old Surrey batsman Dominic Sibley was bowled out for 242 against Yorkshire yesterday after entering the record books as the youngest double centurion in English county cricket.

Aged 18 years and 21 days, the schoolboy batted for 599 minutes and faced 536 balls in an innings that included two sixes and 24 fours before he was bowled by Ryan Sidebottom.

Gary Ballance’s second century of the game then secured a draw for Yorkshire.

Meanwhile, England’s decision to take Monty Panesar to Australia this winter was placed under the microscope again, when the spinner admitted acting in a “potentially threatening and intimidating” manner towards an opponent.

Panesar has been hit with a suspended one-match ban by the England and Wales Cricket Board’s disciplinary commission after pleading guilty to a breach of directive 3.2 in the County Championship match between Essex and Worcestershire earlier this month.
