Britain’s cyclists were on form across Europe yesterday as Emma Pooley secured her third mountain-top stage win in the Giro d’Italia Internazionale, one of women’s cycling’s top three stage races, and Sky’s Pete Kennaugh won the prestigious Tour of Austria.
Former world time-trial champion Pooley’s victory came after soloing away at the Madonna del Ghisallo climb, with Olympic gold medallist Marianne Vos winning overall, and Pooley finishing ninth and taking the best mountain climber award.
Kennaugh won in Austria, having led since day one. Spain’s Javier Moreno was second.
