Bradley Wiggins took the overall lead in the Amgen Tour of California after he claimed victory on the second stage Folsom Time Trial on Monday.
The Team Sky rider clocked a time of 23 minutes 18 seconds on the 12.6 mile route to take the place of Omega Pharma-Quick Step sprinter Mark Cavendish, who won the opening stage on Sunday.
Cavendish crossed the line in a time of 25mins 21 secs to finish in 27th, however the Manxman held onto his Visit California Sprint Leader jersey.
Garmin-Sharp's Rohan Dennis and BMC's Taylor Phinney finished second and third on the stage, and also hold those positions in the general classification.
Tuesday's stage will see the race leave San Jose on a 108.9 mile route to Mount Diablo.
