Manchester City recovered from going a goal down against Borussia Monchengladbach to claim a much-needed Champions League win.

In a pulsating tie, Manuel Pellegrini's men were second best during the first half, but had their goalkeeper, Joe Hart, to thank when they went in level at the break. The England international saved superbly from Raffael's penalty and kept out a number of pot shots that the hosts had on City's goal.

When the opener came from Lars Stindl early in the second half, it was no surprise. City, however, rallied and slowly clawed their way back into the contest. Their defensive pairing of Nicolas Otamendi and Martin Demichelis combined to eventually equalise, with Otamendi's final effort deflecting in off Andreas Christensen.

Sergio Aguero, who had missed several decent chances in the first half, then won a penalty moments from time. The Argentine had no problem converting and salvaging an unlikely victory from a less-than-promising performance.

Manchester City need work, no doubt, but these were a vital three points.
