Neal Maupay blazed over an open goal as wasteful Brighton saw their winless streak stretch to eight Premier League games following a frustrating goalless draw with Leeds.
Recalled top scorer Maupay, back in Albion’s team after three substitute appearances, somehow squandered a golden opportunity with just eight minutes gone on a bitterly-cold evening at the Amex Stadium. Graham Potter’s Seagulls dominated the contest but, despite the best creative efforts of energetic star man Tariq Lamptey, failed to capitalise on a host of chances.
Lively Leandro Trossard and substitute Solly March each rattled the woodwork, while luckless Frenchman Maupay and Jakub Moder wasted further excellent openings. The Sussex stalemate was a sixth draw during Albion’s lengthy run without victory but was sufficient to move them up a place to eighth, above Manchester United. Lacklustre Leeds, who stay fourth bottom, have never won on this ground and rarely looked likely to end that run as their difficult season continued.

Rodrigo pounces on a failed attempt to clear the ball for Brighton and works it across to Forshaw. He slides the ball into the box for Tyler Roberts who shoots and forces Sanchez into a save low to his left!

80 mins: Forshaw passes the ball into the box for Leeds. Rodrigo collects the pass and backheels it to Roberts. He shifts it away from Gross and prods a shot wide of the near post.
That’s been Leeds’ best chance for quite some time and they may just be thinking that they can nick a goal here and win this.

77 mins: That run was Lamptey’s last action as Solly March comes on to replace him. March is into the action immediately when he receives the ball on the left wing. He carries it inside, skirting the edge of the box before hitting a left-footed shot at goal and forcing Meslier to tip the effort over the crossbar.

74 mins: Lamptey takes the ball off Forshaw and turns towards the box. He sends it across to Gross who threads a pass up for Lacadia. Lacadia shoots from the edge of the box on the turn but can’t generate enough power to beat Meslier in goal.

71 mins: Moder and Bissouma combine to squeeze in behind the Leeds defence on the right side. Bissouma looks to cross the ball and wins a corner.
Pascal Gross delivers the set piece but Leeds head the ball away and look to counter attack with a long ball up to James. He breezes past Cucurella and fires a shot wide of the back post.

Shackleton gives the ball away in his own box but Moder’s shot across goal goes wide. The ball is cleared out for a Brighton throw in and Gross is played in down the inside right channel. He chips the ball back across to Moder and this time his shot goes for the goal!

62 mins: Trossard takes on Shackleton over on Brighton’s left wing. He spins away from the defender and drives inside with the ball. Shackleton tracks him but can’t catch up with the Brighton forward before he takes a shot from the edge of the box that sails wide of the far post.

60 mins: Moder and Lamptey combine on the right wing to get Moder in behind the lines. He crosses the ball in towards Maupay but Meslier comes off his line and, after a little fumble, claims the ball.
