Bruno Fernandes appears to speak out against European Super League

The Portuguese international responded in agreement to compatriot and Wolves forward Daniel Podence, who spoke out against the European Super League

Bruno Fernandes appeared to speak out against the European Super League and how it would not replace his “dreams” of playing in the Champions League.

Fernandes’ club, Manchester United, are confirmed as one of the founding members of the breakaway competition, announced on Sunday evening.

But the Portugal international concurred with compatriot and Wolves star Daniel Podence, who insisted the new competition could not replace the history and memories associated with the Uefa Champions League.

"Dreams can't be bought", Fernandes wrote alongside three clapping hands emojis, while quoting Podence’s post on Instagram.

Alongside a picture of himself playing in the Champions League for Olympiacos, Podence wrote: “The Ball. The Song. The Dream. Zidane’s volley... Kaka’s Solo... Liverpool In Athens... Ole in Barcelona... Cris and Seedorf...

“There some things we just can’t really pay for.”

The Premier League and Uefa issued a swift response to plans for 12 clubs to breakaway from the traditional structures of European football.

While Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer, who has been installed as co-chairman of the European Super League, described the move as a “new chapter for European football”.

“By bringing together the world’s greatest clubs and players to play each other throughout the season,” said the American.

“The Super League will open a new chapter for European football, ensuring world-class competition and facilities, and increased financial support for the wider football pyramid.”
