AC Milan sack Clarence Seedorf: Milan move on to third manager in six months as they appoint former striker Filipo Inzaghi, while simultaneously sacking Seedorf

No announcement was made on Seedorf's future until Inzaghi was appointed on Monday

AC Milan have confirmed the appointment of former striker Filipo Inzaghi as manager on a two-year contract, with club legend and Inzaghi’s ex-team-mate Clarence Seedorf sacked as a result.

Inzaghi has been promoted from his role as the club’s Under-19 manager, and means that the Rossoneri are now onto their third manager in six months, given that Seedorf was only appointed in January having replaced Massimiliano Allegri.

Inzaghi’s appointment came among confusion given that there was no official statement from the Italian club that Seedorf had been sacked until Inzaghi’s announcement was made.

The club released the news on Twitter, before confirming the change through a statement issued on the club’s website.

The statement read: “AC Milan communicates that Clarence Seedorf has been dismissed. Filippo Inzaghi has been appointed as first team coach, and is under contract until June 30th, 2016.”

Inzaghi takes charge having never previously manager a senior side, and while the dismissal of Seedorf is not a surprise given that club owner Silvio Berlusconi described Seedorf as the club’s “past” last week, the appointment of another inexperienced manager can be seen as a risk.

AC Milan endured a poor season under Allegri and Seedorf, finishing eighth in Serie A 45 points behind champions Juventus. Their failure to qualify for Europe comes as a great shock for the seven-time European Cup champions, who will now look to strengthen in the summer ahead of Inzaghi’s first season in senior management.
