Atletico Madrid reached the Champions League quarter-finals after edging past PSV Eindhoven 8-7 on penalties following 210 goalless minutes in their last-16 tie.

Juanfran converted the winning spot-kick at the Vicente Calderon Stadium to separate the two clubs after they became the first to end a Champions League knockout match 0-0 on aggregate.

It took 16 kicks to finally produce a winner with Luciano Narsingh hitting the crossbar with PSV's eighth effort before Juanfran coolly delivered for his side. Former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres was also on target in the shoot-out.

Atletico are into the last eight for a third successive year, having also needed penalties to beat Bayer Leverkusen last season.

The draw for the quarter-finals takes place on Friday.
