Lionel Messi makes his first appearance for FC Barcelona since injuring his arm against Sevilla in October.

Barcelona are looking to extend their lead at the top of the table and can create a four point gap between them and Atletico Madrid with a win against Real Betis.

The Catalonian side were denied a slim victory against Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday when Malcom’s 83rd minute strike was levelled by Mauro Icardi four minutes later.

Betis hold out at the end for a famous win at the Nou Camp!

Goals from Junior Firpo, Joaquin, Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Canales were just about enough for Betis, for only their second win away from home this season.

Lionel Messi scored twice on his return, either side of a goal for substitute Vidal, but it wasn't enough as Barca slumped to their second loss in the league, and their first at home.

What a fantastic match!

The result means Barcelona don't extend their lead at the top. They're on 24 points from 12 games, with Atletico Madrid a point behind.

Meanwhile, the three points for Betis moves them onto 16 points, pushing them up to 12th in the table.

Well, thanks for joining us on The Independent live blog, on a day Real Betis stunned Barcelona with a terrific performance at the Nou Camp. See you next time!
