Chelsea Champions League draw 2019: Blues to play Bayern Munich in last 16
Frank Lampard’s side edged out Ajax but had to settle for a runners-up place due to Valencia’s superior head-to-head record

Chelsea will play Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Frank Lampard’s side will host the first leg at Stamford Bridge on 25 February before travelling to Munich for the return leg on 18 March.
The Blues advanced from the group stage after finishing second ahead of Ajax but behind Valencia – who are seeded for the next round due to a superior head-to-head record against the Blues. A shock 1-0 home defeat to Valencia opened Lampard’s debut in Europe as manager.
And while a win at Ajax was a highlight, the chaotic nature of the reverse fixture and the basketball-type match in the Mestalla proved this side’s inconsistency.
The Blues will hope they can improve their chances of reaching the quarter-finals with January moves after having their transfer ban halved.
The last 16 fixtures begin on 18-19 February and 25-26 February, with the second legs concluding the ties on 10-11 March and 17-18 March.
