David Moyes: Former Manchester United manager to be unveiled today as he arrives to take up Real Sociedad job

Real Sociedad sent out a tweet to welcome Moyes as their new manager and he will be presented to the media later on Thursday

David Moyes will end his seven-month absence from football when he is officially unveiled as the new coach of Real Sociedad on Thursday.

Moyes has agreed a one-and-a-half year deal with the Basque club, who currently lie 15th in Spain's Primera Division after a dismal start to the season.

Sociedad made no secret of their pursuit of Moyes, and tweeted news of his arrival in San Sebastian on Wednesday with the message: "David Moyes has arrived in San Sebastian! #WelcomeMoyes".

Despite Moyes' short and tumultuous spell in charge of Manchester United, he has been backed to succeed at a club with a strong British tradition, with John Toshack and Chris Coleman among their former managers.

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta, who played under Moyes for six years at Everton and also spent a season with Sociedad, said Moyes will find himself at home.

Arteta told marca.com: "I have spoken to him (Moyes) and I have told him that he is going to a marvellous place.

"He is going to find a club that in many aspects resembles Everton.

"It's like a family and with a group of players that are currently in a lower position than they deserve to be in."

The 51-year-old Scot will be looking to rebuild his reputation after being shown the door just 10 months into his six-year contract at Old Trafford.

Moyes will inherit a club with potential having finished fourth and seventh in their previous two La Liga seasons.

And last Sunday Sociedad ended a poor run of eight games without a league win by beating defending champions Atletico Madrid 2-1 at home.

That win came too late for former coach Jagoba Arrasate, who had paid the price for the club's poor performances this campaign when he was sacked on November 2.

Moyes' first game in charge will be the trip to newly-promoted Deportivo La Coruna on November 22.
