Diego Simeone forcefully slapped the arm of an official during last night's Champions League semi-final.

The Atletico Madrid manager was stalking and stomping along the touchline as he nervously watched his side secure a place in the European Cup final at the expense of Bayern Munich.

With his team trailing 2-1 on the night but heading through 2-2 on aggregate thanks to the away goals rule, Simeone appeared almost uncontrollable.

With the tie in injury-time, Simeone was unable to contain his frustration at an official holding the board to signal a substitution. The Argentine slapped the man's arm, much to his shock.

While at first it was assumed the man holding the board was a Uefa official, it transpired that it was actually a member of his own staff, Atletico Madrid delegate Pedro Pablo Matesanz.

Minutes later Simeone was celebrating when the full-time whistle went, having masterminded a path into the Champions League final for the second time in three years.

Atletico will play either Real Madrid or Manchester City, who meet tonight.
