Dortmund vs Tottenham player ratings: Who impressed as Mauricio Pochettino's side were beaten in Germany?

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of progression in the Europa League received an all but mortal blow as they went down 3-0 away to Borussia Dortmund.

In the cauldron-esque Westfalenstadion, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were blown away by the Bundesliga side’s fans and their football.

From almost the first minute, Thomas Tuchel’s Schwarzgelben swarmed on their opponents, who will head back to north London solely focused on domestic challenges.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a handful throughout, had a goal disallowed early on when Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s ferocious long-range effort was matched by an athletic Hugo Lloris save.

The Gabon international tapped the rebound home but his touch only invited the assistant referee to raise his flag.

Aubameyang was not to be denied and, on the half hour mark, converted his side’s dominance into a lead by rising above a stranded Ben Davies and heading home.

Tottenham, by that time, had weathered an early storm but without key first-team players in their starting line-up, always looked second best.

Dortmund’s lead remained at 1-0 until shortly after the hour mark, when Marco Reus met Marcel Schmelzer’s corner at the far post and volleyed past Lloris.

The hosts put one firm foot in the quarter-finals shortly after. Reus notched once more with a first-time effort, capping off a fine team move with a sweeping finish.
