Liverpool: How the Reds could face Bayern Munich and Juventus or Real Madrid and PSG in the Champions League

When Liverpool play in the Champions League for the first time since 2010 next season they will be thrown right into the deep end, even if they in their first league title since 1990.

Because they have not played in the competition in four years, Brendan Rodgers' side are 32nd in Uefa's co-efficient table with a points total of 58.806. Barcelona, on the other hand, lead the table with 155.656 points.

Liverpool could now face the nightmare scenario of a Champions League group including Bayern Munich and Juventus or Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Premier League title is in Liverpool's hands, but even if they win the trophy they will still be potentially placed in a 'Group of Death' because of their position in Pot Three.

It may not be all bad though, with Benfica or Porto in Pot One, and the possibility of taking on FC Basel or Zenit St Petersburg from Pot Two.

The co-efficient table is updated after the conclusion of every match round, but with them not playing in the competition this term, Liverpool's position is unlikely to fluctuate before the conclusion of the season.

It is a similar situation to that of Manchester City, who have faced tricky groups in their last three Champions League campaigns. Fortunately for City they should now be seeded in Pot Two next season because of their appearances in the competition, but could drop back into Pot Three if Manchester United do the unthinkable and win the tournament this season.

As the points are accumulated from the last five seasons in the European competitions to determine the seeding of each club in Uefa draws, Tottenham Hotspur are currently higher than Liverpool in the table in 18th place, as they have played in the competition more recently (reaching the quarter-final in 2010/11) and have consistently played in the Europa League since 2011.
