Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is set to sign a new four-year contract with the La Liga giants on Friday with the option of a further year.

The Spain international has won four La Liga titles since making his senior debut for the club in 2008 while he has also lifted the World Cup with his country.

The 26-year-old has become an invaluable member of the Barca squad and amassed 313 appearances, winning the Champions League in both 2009 and 2011.

Busquests has attracted interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City in recent years, but looks likely to remain at the Nou Camp for the rest of his career.

A statement said: "FC Barcelona have reached agreement with Sergio Busquets to extend his contract with the Club until June 30 2019, with an option for a further year after that. The contract will be signed on Friday lunchtime in the Club offices at the Camp Nou."
