Manuel Pellegrini has dropped £32m centre-back Eliaquim Mangala after his poor performance against Hull City at the weekend.

The French defender scored an own goal and gave away a penalty in Manchester City's 4-2 victory, and Pellegrini has opted for the more experienced Martin Demichelis in his place.

England No 1 Joe Hart has been restored to the line-up, as expected, while Jesus Navas has replaced James Milner on the right wing. Stevan Jovetic is fit enough for a place on the bench.

For Roma, who have won all six of their matches so far this season, Rudi Garcia has made three changes to the side that beat Hellas Verona 2-0.

Their usual goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis has a groin problem so Polish youngster Lukasz Skorupski comes in.

Former Arsenal winger Gervinho and Alessandro Florenzi, who scored the opener after coming on as a substitute at the weekend, start with Adem Ljajic and Mattia Destro making way.

LINE-UPS:

Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy, Navas, Toure, Fernandinho, Silva, Aguero Dzeko.

Subs: Caballero, Sagna, Kolarov, Milner, Lampard, Jovetic, Mangala

Roma: Skorupski, Maicon, Manolas, Yanga-Mbiwa, Cole, Pjanic, Keita, Nainggolan, Florenzi, Totti, Gervinho.

Subs: Curci, Iturbe, Ljajic, Destro, Holebas, Paredes, Torosidis.
