Manchester United fans reacted furiously, both at Old Trafford and on Twitter, to the decision to substitute Anthony Martial for Marouane Fellaini during the Champions League win over CSKA Moscow.

Louis van Gaal made the call in the 66th minute with the score level at 0-0.

When the board went up at Old Trafford to signal the switch, boos rang out at the Theatre of Dreams as the frustration among supporters reached new levels.

Earlier in the game, fans had been imploring their side to "attack, attack, attack" only to be reciprocated with another abject display from their side.

The Red Devils had gone into the match without a goal in 325 minutes.

The previous goal scorer was Martial, who coincidentally scored when United played CSKA Moscow last month. Prior to the return tie with CSKA, United had played two Premier League games - against Manchester City and Crystal Palace and a Capital One Cup tie with Middlesbrough which they lost on penalties after extra time, all of which ended in 0-0 draws.

Here's a flavour of the reaction on Twitter...

Louis van Gaal's blushes were saved when Wayne Rooney headed in the winner late on to secure a 1-0 victory.
