Roma have appointed Vincenzo Montella as their manager until the end of the season following the resignation of Claudio Ranieri.

Montella, 36, who becomes the youngest coach in Serie A, retired from playing only in July 2009. He has since been working as youth team coach at Roma. Ranieri quit after Sunday's 4-3 defeat to Genoa.

The former Roma manager Carlo Mazzone believes Montella, who does not possess any coaching badges, can overcome a lack of experience. "I don't believe that the lack of experience is a defect – in fact, it can become an asset," Mazzone said.
