Wednesday's Champions League semi-final which saw Manchester City exit the competition to Real Madrid has been labelled "terrible" and "dire".

The game at the Bernabeu saw Real Madrid win 1-0, and the overall tie 1-0, thanks to a deflected shot from Gareth Bale in the first half.

Despite knowing that just a single goal would send them into their their first ever Champions League final, Manchester City failed to muster any sort of response.

Manuel Pellegrini's side managed just five shots in the turgid affair, with Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas needing to save just one. Meanwhile star striker Sergio Aguero failed to have a single touch inside the box.

People expressed their frustration at the poor quality of the match on Twitter...

Among the Manchester City players it was Yaya Toure who took the brunt of the criticism. The Ivorian, occupying the centre of midfield, did not manage a single interception and made just one attempt at a tackle.

Real Madrid progress to the final in which they will play local rivals Atletico Madrid.
