Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will miss the Europa League round-of-32 trip to Fiorentina with a shoulder injury.

Spurs travel to Florence buoyed by the 2-1 victory against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium which strengthened their claim to the Premier League title. They will be without Lloris, however, with Michel Vorm expected to deputise for the north London outfit.

The injury is also likely to keep the Frenchman out of the FA Cup tie with Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon but manager Mauricio Pochettino is calm about the issue.

“It is not a big, big issue. It is a very small injury,” the Argentine said on Wednesday evening.

“We need to assess him during the week if he can be available for next Thursday but for sure, Thursday and Sunday he is out.”

Jan Vertonghen continues to recover from a MCL knee ligament injury, with the Belgian not expected to return for months rather than weeks, while Clinton N’Jie is the only other absentee for the clash with Serie A opponents.

Pochettino, meanwhile, insists last season’s defeat in Florence will have no link to tonight’s result as Spurs are a completely different proposition.

“Last season was very different, some different players and we are in a different period now,” he said.

“Fiorentina are the same because they have a different coach and different players, too. It is a very different team to last season, a different game completely.

“My attitude was to try and win the game (last year) and tomorrow it is the same. It is a very important competition for us, we have a strong squad.

“I agree with Paulo - the characteristics and the level we show in the Premier League and the level of Fiorentina in the Serie A, both teams have a lot of quality and good players.

“I agree with him, we need to work very hard to play again next season but in the Champions League against Fiorentina.”
