Having got the New Year off to a winning start, Fulham are brimming with renewed belief says captain Brede Hangeland.

Tuesday's victory at West Brom was only Fulham's second win in their past 13 Premier League fixtures and Hangeland wants to build on that beginning with tomorrow's FA Cup tie at home to Championship side Blackpool report The Evening Standard.

The defender said: "It has been a frustrating time with a poor run of results, so we were really pleased with ourselves to go to West Brom and get all three points.

"The game proved to ourselves and to everyone else that we can get results against most teams. We've always known the quality is there, it was just a matter of producing it. The West Brom win was a step in the right direction."

Fulham's 2-1 victory at The Hawthorns came thanks to a late brave save by stand-in goalkeeper David Stockdale, who showed that he had suffered no hangover from the two blunders that cost Fulham dear in last Saturday's defeat against Swansea.

Stockdale, recalled from a loan spell with Hull City when

first-choice goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer suffered a neck injury, is likely to retain his place tomorrow after Martin Jol hailed his latest performance.

The Fulham boss said: "Against Swansea I thought we deserved the three points even more than against West Brom but because of a couple of mistakes we didn't look very good. That was disappointing for David and for us because we know that he's a fantastic keeper. Against West Brom luck was on his side and I'm very happy for him."

Jol has been dividing his time between preparing Fulham to take on a Blackpool side that failed to win any of their four games over the Christmas and New Year period and delving into the January transfer market.

It is understood that Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng could be on his way from Dnipro of the Ukraine, subject to the 29-year-old obtaining a work permit.

And sources in Holland suggest Jol is finally set to capture

long-time target Chris David, the 19-year-old playmaker who

FC Twente went so far as to announce had joined Fulham on the last day of the summer transfer window, only for the deal to stall.

Jol's former club Ajax were also chasing the highly-regarded Holland youth international but it is believed that Fulham have offered the more attractive package.
