Manchester City survived a scare at the Etihad Stadium to book their place in the final of the Carabao Cup at the expense of their fierce rivals Manchester United.

City came into the game with a 3-1 lead after dominating at Old Trafford in the first leg, and began this game in the same vein.

Yet it was United who went in ahead at half-time after Nemanja Matic lashed home from 12 yards with a powerful half-volley in what was the visitors' only shot of the first period.

City created more chances in the second half but couldn't take them – and when Sergio Aguero eventually did he was denied by the narrowest of offside calls.

It came down to the wire but City held on to ensure they will go to Wembley as favourites to retain their crown against Aston Villa.
