It’s a big game for…

Adam Lallana: The England man has scored just five goals since leaving the Saints back in July 2014, and has gone eleven games without scoring for Liverpool in all competitions this season, with one assist. He needs to up his game to provide for Benteke and Firmino.

Weird stat…

3: Both teams are on a positive goal difference of three this season. Thus far, Southampton tend to net more at home, whereas Liverpool are more prolific away from Anfield, which bodes well for neutrals watching who are looking for goals.

Remember when…

Southampton ripped Liverpool apart: Described as one of the best team goals of all time, back in April 1982 Southampton chained together 14 quick-fire passes that any Barcelona player would be proud of. The goal was finished by Mick Channon, although unfortunately for the home side, they would end up losing the game 2-3.

Player to watch…

Philippe Coutinho: The Reds’ top scorer this season is set to return from his hamstring injury suffered in the 4-1 win at Manchester City. Before his setback, he had scored three goals in his last four Premier League games, so if he makes the starting eleven, expect him to be in fine fettle once more.

Past three-meetings…

Liverpool 1 (Benteke) – 1 (Mane) Southampton, Premier League, October 2015

Southampton 0 – 2 Liverpool (Coutinho, Sterling), Premier League, February 2015

Liverpool 2 (Sterling, Sturridge) – 1 Southampton (Clyne), Premier League, August 2014

Form guide…
