Championship round up: Brian McDermott's job on the line at Leeds after rout by Bolton

Billy Sharp's goal allowed Doncaster to take the lead

Pressure was piled on Brian McDermott again as his Leeds United side were thrashed 5-1 at home by Bolton, leaving their hopes of reaching the Championship promotion play-offs hanging by a thread. The next story saying that the Leeds manager has been sacked may prove reliable, but all McDermott would say was: "It is pointless thinking about my own position. All I can do is get everyone together, train on Sunday and Monday and put a team out [against Reading] on Tuesday. That is what I want to do." Leeds had plenty of possession but the roof fell in on them at Elland Road after Joe Mason scored just before half-time. Lukas Jutkiewicz headed the second, Zat Knight made it three and when Jutkiewicz crossed for Mark Davies in the 72nd minute he made it 4-0. Andre Moritz added a late fifth before Mark Smith headed a consolation goal for Leeds.

Morison boosts Millwall

On a remarkable day for most of the Championship strugglers Millwall stopped Derby from stepping up the pressure on Leicester City and Burnley at the top by beating Derby 1-0 at the iPro Stadium. Derby had plenty of possession but Millwall went ahead when Steve Morison headed in Lee Martin's cross on the hour. Derby laid seige to the Millwall goal during eight minutes of added time and complained about time-wasting, but Millwall's manager Ian Holloway said: "I've got two of my back four on the bus who won't play on Tuesday but I'm being criticised for them being on the floor."

Miller's double

Yeovil Town remain in the bottom three despite Ishmael Miller scoring twice in a 2-0 home win over 10-man Sheffield Wednesday. Miller, on loan from Nottingham Forest, scored either side of half-time in a match that Wednesday largely controlled. Yeovil's manager Gary Johnson heaped praise on him: "If we stay up it's because we've got a striker who scores every other game."

Rovers revive

Doncaster scored a stunning 2-0 derby victory over Huddersfield as both sides reversed recent form. Rovers had looked every bit relegation fodder last week when they were thrashed 5-0 by Bournemouth, while the Terriers beat Barnsley by the same score. It had been closely fought until Doncaster took the lead in the 28th minute with a goal by Billy Sharp. A first win in six was assured after David Cotteril turned in the second 10 minutes into the second half. It was inconsistent Huddersfield's seventh defeat in 10 games. Terriers boss Mark Robins said: "We can't keep winning one week and losing the next."

Jennings off the mark

Dale Jennings scored his first goal for Barnsley to lead them to a 1-0 victory over promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest that lifted them off the bottom of the Championship table. Forest had most of the early chances but they slipped to their third successive defeat after Jennings cut in to drive in the only goal in the 51st minute.

Dicko puts Wolves clear

Wolves are two points clear of Leyton Orient at the top of League One with two games in hand after winning 3‑0 at Walsall. Nouha Dicko scored twice and Bakary Sako added the third. Wolves' manager Kenny Jackett told the club's website: "We are delighted because potentially this was a very tricky game for us." Orient were held 0-0 at the bottom side Notts County. Brentford have games in hand to step back up to the automatic promotion places after a 2-0 win over Bradford.

Rooney on the mark

Adam Rooney netted a header in the second half to give Aberdeen a 1-0 victory over battling Championship side Dumbarton and a place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup. St Johnstone were more convincing in their 3-1 victory over Raith Rovers. In the other quarter-finals today Rangers face Albion and Inverness play Dundee United.

Barcelona beaten

Barcelona had their confidence dented ahead of their Champions League return leg at home to Manchester City when they were beaten 1-0 at Valladolid. Fausto Rossi, on loan from Juventus, scored the 17th-minute goal that stopped Barça from overtaking Real Madrid at the top of La Liga. Lionel Messi had a late shot saved. Barça may be grateful for their 2-0 edge over City.
