Gall's late winner puts Yeovil a step nearer League

The long wait endured by Yeovil Town for a place in the Football League looks more and more likely to come to an end this year. The Somerset side extended their lead at the top of the Nationwide Conference to 11 points on Tuesday, when they overturned a 2-0 half-time deficit to triumph 3-2 at Halifax Town.

The former Southport striker Simon Parke struck twice inside two minutes to put Halifax well in command after only a quarter of an hour's play at The Shay. But it was all change after the interval as Yeovil's Kevin Gall pounced twice to level the scores before the hour mark.

It seemed the Yorkshire outfit would be able to hang on for a point, but Gall had other ideas. The Yeovil striker took advantage of a slip by Shaun Garnett to snatch a winner at the second attempt in injury time and give the Somerset side a dramatic victory.

Gary Johnson, the Yeovil manager, is not assuming that promotion is won, but is planning ahead for what next season might bring. "We don't want to go into the League and struggle," he said. "We're capable of doing well in the Third Division, but first we have to get there."
