League round-up: Oldham deny racism

An Oldham player who is alleged to have used racist abuse towards a ball boy during the 1-1 draw against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane has received the backing of his club.

The unnamed Latics player has "categorically denied" the claims and a club statement said: "Oldham Athletic Football Club was made aware by South Yorkshire Police after today's npower League One match at Sheffield United of an allegation of racist abuse by one of its players. The player has categorically denied the allegation and the club and his team-mates are fully supportive of him."

The presence of a Champions' League winner could not prevent Barnet slipping deeper into the League Two mire as Plymouth cruised to a 4-1 victory at Underhill.

The recently arrived joint-head coach Edgar Davids saw his new side go behind to a Rhys Griffith penalty inside two minutes, then Maxime Blanchard doubled the lead.
