Leeds fans staged a 17th-minute walkout during the match with Championship leaders Hull in protest against the club’s owner, Massimo Cellino, but no one was prepared for what followed.

Cellino drew the ire of the Leeds support earlier in the day when he told The Mirror that he interfered with manager Steve Evans’ tactics during last weekend’s 1-0 defeat by Queens Park Rangers, although the protest was already planned before the revelations were made.

With Cellino showing a public disliking to the number 17 due to his superstitious nature, fans organised to leave the stands midway through the first half, but upon their return somebody had the audacity to throw a pie onto the pitch.

While it may not be the crime of the century, the decision to throw the pastry needs to be fully explained.

Fans are unhappy with the recent price increase for a pie at Elland Road, and despite the club including a £5 food and drink voucher with each matchday ticket, it can cost supporters up to £40 to see Championship football at the Yorkshire club.

However, the protest did not go off as planned, with many deciding to stay in the stands and they were rewarded when Chris Wood and Tom Adeyemi gave United a 2-0 half-time lead.
