Rosenior's trial brings chance to impress Chelsea

Bristol City's could earn himself a move to Chelsea if he impresses during a week-long trial with the Premiership team. The 17-year-old son of the former West Ham striker, Leroy, himself leaving his position as City coach to become manager of Merthyr Tydfil, the Dr Martens League club, is regarded as one of the club's brightest prospects.

Rosenior, who can play at centre-back or in midfield, signed a three-year contract earlier this season and is already a regular in City's Under-19 side and has featured in the reserves.

Trevor Benjamin has joined Crystal Palace on a one-month loan from Leicester. The 22-year-old has yet to score this season, and his first-team chances have been limited since Brian Deane's arrival at Filbert Street. Benjamin will go straight into the squad to face Nottingham Forest today.

Carlton Palmer, the Stockport manager, has placed the Finnish midfielder Jarkko Wiss on the transfer list after deciding the 28-year-old was surplus to requirements. Palmer has claimed that Wiss, who was bought by his predecessor Andy Kilner for £350,000 last year, was not "pulling his weight" in training.

Chesterfield are free to bring in new players after the Professional Footballers' Association lifted the transfer embargo on the club. The Spireites had been prevented from buying players since last spring when the PFA stepped in to pay £185,000 in players' wages. That debt has been cut to about £50,000.

Oldham have signed Chesterfield's striker David Reeves on a month's loan. The transfer-listed pair, Mark Innes and Mark Allott, have moved in the opposite direction.

The Bradford captain Stuart McCall has claimed it is "highly unlikely" that he will be selected by the manager Jim Jefferies in the near future. McCall was left out of the squad for the trip to Manchester City last Sunday and said he had been told that his "legs have gone".

Blackpool have confirmed they are interested in bringing the Aston Villa striker Richard Walker back to the club. Walker spent the last three months of last season on loan at Bloomfield Road and the manager Steve McMahon could be set to bring him back to replace Brett Ormerod, who has joined Southampton for £1.75m.
