England Euro 2016: Roy Hodgson unveils his shirt numbers, but has he revealed his starting line-up?

Hodgson has selected a bulk of his expected first-team members in the 1-11 shirts, but there are two notable omissions

Roy Hodgson has confirmed the squad numbers for the 23 players that he will take to the Euro 2016 Championship, with the England manager appearing to veer away from the traditional 1-11 first-team format that has been used more often than not.

While a number of first-team regular feature in the first 11 shirts, both Eric Dier and Dele Alli are missing, with Hodgson allocating the Tottenham duo the number 17 and 20 shirts respectively.

Instead, both James Milner and Adam Lallana feature in the first 11, with Milner taking the number four shirt normally reserved for the holding midfielder and Lallana wearing the number eight in a more advanced role.

While Dier and Alli are relatively new to international football, both are expected to feature in Hodgson’s first XI.

Elsewhere, the rest of the first team appear to have bagged themselves shirt within the first 11, which hints that Hodgson will look to start Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy together in the same team after allocating them the nine, 10 and 11 shirts respectively. Chris Smalling looks to have edged out John Stones after the Manchester United defender was given the number six shirt, with Gary Cahill retaining the number five that he wore at the 2014 World Cup.

Joe Hart takes the number one shirt as expected with full-backs Kyle Walker and Danny Rose in the two and three shirts respectively, while Jordan Henderson is the only other player to wear the same number as he did in the World Cup with the Liverpool captain sporting the number 14 shirt.
