Gold Coast City fight back from 6-1 down to beat Holland Park Hawks 8-6

The pre-season match saw the astonishing fight back in the final 27 minutes

As a football player at any level, you are always told by your coaches to never give up.

However, that doesn't always mean you listen to those instructions.

Finding yourselves 6-1 down after 63 minutes would be cause for most sides to wave the white flag - but not for Gold Coast City of the National Premier Leagues (NPL) in Australia.

In a pre-season match against Holland Park Hawks, Gold Coast City found themselves 4-0 down at half-time and then 6-1 down with 27 minutes to play.

Then something astonishing happened. Head coach Grae Piddick brought on some of his rested players and Gold Coast fought back.

They scored five in normal time to force the match to extra-time, then scored another two - seven unanswered goals - to eventually win 8-6.

"I rotated the side a fair bit to start with and we conceded some sloppy goals," Piddick, who called it a "crazy game", told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Three of his substitutes Daniel Dragicevic (two), Lyndon Dykes (three) and Rhys Saunders (one) scored six of the seven goals, Tim Jackson scoring the other.
