It’s a big game for…

Kyle Lafferty: The Norwich striker has been playing far more regularly for his country than he has for any of his recent clubs, making just four substitute appearances in the Championship this season. However Lafferty is his country’s second highest goalscorer of all time and will be keen to prove a point with another impressive performance on Tuesday evening.

Weird stat…

Croatia are the most recent international side to have scored ten goals in a game, coming in a 10-0 victory over minnows San Marino in a warm-up game to Euro 2016 in June. Mario Mandzukic and former Blackburn striker Nikola Kalinic both recorded hat-tricks.

Northern Ireland remain the least populous country (1.81 million) to have ever won or scored in a match at a World Cup.

Remember when…

Northern Ireland lost just once in ten matches to qualify first in their group for Euro 2016. This was the first time they had qualified for a major tournament in 20 years and they impressed in France, reaching the second round before succumbing to a strong Wales team in a tight match.

Player to watch…

Marcelo Brozovic: One of the more unheralded amongst many familiar names for Croatia, the midfielder recently scored both goals in a 2-0 victory against Iceland, famously conquerors of England at Euro 2016. The Inter Milan regular turns 24 on Wednesday and will be hoping for another goal to come as an early birthday present.

Past meetings…

This will be the first time that these two sides have ever played against each other.
