Wayne Rooney says Liverpool exit has been good for Raheem Sterling

The youngster moved to Manchester City in a £49m deal

Wayne Rooney says Raheem Sterling appears "happy" and "more relaxed and settled" after completing his £49m move from Liverpool to Manchester City.

The 20-year-old was involved in a bitter transfer between the clubs, with some sections of Liverpool's support turning on the youngster when it became apparent he wanted to leave Anfield.

A move to the Etihad was eventually agreed and Sterling has been quick to make an impact. He scored after just two minutes of his debut in a friendly against Roma and bagged his first Premier League goal for Manuel Pellegrini's side in the recent 2-0 win over Watford.

Rooney is pleased from an England perspective that Sterling's situation has been resolved.

“You can see he’s settled. He’s happy, I’m sure," said the England captain.

“He’s got the move he wanted. He’s started the season excellently, settled in really well at City.

“When you are going through what he did, trying to leave Liverpool, it can be quite difficult. But he’s a lot more relaxed and settled, which is good for us.”

England take on Switzerland at Wembley tonight.
