England's national stadium Wembley has emerged as the favourite to host the semi-finals and final of the 2020 European Championships.

The final decision will be made in a vote on Friday, with Scotland's Hampden Park, the Dublin Arena and Wales' Millennium Stadium also believed to have scored highly in evaluations to host group and knockout games.

For the first time Uefa are planning to hold a continent-wide tournament involving a number of countries.

According to The Guardian, only the German and English football associations submitted bids for the "finals package" with the DFB offering Munich's Allianz Arena; but the DFB are now reported to be more interested in hosting Euro 2024 and are said to be open to doing a deal with England that would see the FA back their bid, with Germany backing the FA's 2020 bid.

President Wolfgang Niersbach told the DFB wesbsite: "On Friday, the Uefa executive committee will be focusing exclusively on Euro 2020, not on other issues and certainly not on our bid for 2024. Nevertheless, it might be an option when it comes to reaching a consensus and to prevent a crucial vote for the final package between London and Munich."

Michel Platini came up with the scheme to host a pan-European tournament after Turkey withdrew to concentrate on a failed Olympic bid. The Uefa president said it is a one-off to celebrate the Uefa's 60th anniversary.
